I think for most of us, when trying to picture an 18 year old girl, still living at home, receiving corporal punishment from one of her parents, there is often a lovely bare bottom being presented for punishment, such as in the animation below.

For the most part, it is Southern and Mid-Western girls that still find themselves receiving corporal punishment well into their teen years. It will typically be in a small rural town with a heavy religious influence, a place in which corporal punishment has always been the norm. There is a good chance that this is also a town in which corporal punishment is still allowed in the schools.
When a girl that has grown up in such an environment, it is quite likely that corporal punishment has been the primary form of discipline since she was a little girl. To allow him a moment to calm down, he told her that he did not even want to talk to her at the moment and suggested that she go to her room. She went to her room, with her heart beating fast, but she knew this was going to be her moment to make a stand.
