As we move into 2020, with parenting becoming very progressive, seemingly leaving some of the old school disciplinary measures in the past, it seems spanking is going out of style. While that may indeed be the case in parts of the US, most parents in the South did not seem to receive that memo. In the “Bible Belt” corporal punishment is alive and well, and within the homes and schools, very little has changed.
Parents in the South generally see corporal punishment as something that was not only used on them growing up, but was quite effective when administered. They grew up in a house in which if they misbehaved, someone’s bottom was going to be worn out. The concept was and still is, quite simple. Follow the rules, do as you are told, be respectful…or your bottom will pay the price.

That concept has not changed all that much, nor have the consequences. While some parents will go the extra mile and actually build a paddle, or send their naughty daughter to pick a switch, in the South, the belt still reigns king. There are multiple belts in every single home, especially in the South, and a heavy and wide Western belt is never that far out of reach. In general, it is always worn so it is always available.

Southern parents see it as the implement of correction that was used very effectively on them, and see no reason to flip the script when it comes to the discipline of their own daughters. The common thread is that it is in a place in the home where there is zero privacy and anyone present can watch.

It is not something that died in the 50’s, it is not a myth, for better than half of the US, corporal punishment is a very regular part of discipline in home and happens on a very frequent basis. Mom said that she was glad her daughter was safe, then told her husband to wear her ass out, and went to bed.

Once a sentence was handed down by mom, she knew from experience that there was no changing it. She had a seat on the chair and waited nervously while her dad went to get the dreaded belt. The belt that he always used was a big and over-sized Western belt that she had never once seen worn. As far as she knew it had been purchased for the exclusive purpose of wearing her bottom out. It had been 4-5 months since her last whoopin, as she tended to walk the straight and narrow for quite some time after a proper whoopin. He walked back in the room, told her to stand up, walk to the middle of the room, and bend over. She knew far too well that arguing or bargaining only made things worse. She was long past trying to be tough and not give them the satisfaction of tears as she knew it would not end until she was really crying.

He was going to make sure that they never dealt with this issue ever again and her bottom was paying the price for it.
